This is an inspiring and instructive DVD about making peace with those who have hurt us. Interspersing stories of those who have suffered devastating trauma in Rwanda with brief teachings about forgiveness, Dr. John Steward invites viewers to consider whom they need to forgive in their own lives. The DVD is designed to be used by small groups of Christians who can explore these questions together prayerfully and confidentially. Bible passages and role plays are suggested and thought-provoking questions are posed that go to the heart of the Gospel of forgiveness. I warmly recommend this inspiring DVD to any person or church seeking God’s gifts of forgiveness and reconciliation. Deborah van Deusen Hunsinger, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology, Princeton Theological Seminary ..................................................................................................... This DVD, this learning process, won me over with a mixture of passion, narratives of the Rwanda genocide, scriptural insight and gentle spirit. Its truth and benefit comes from its honesty, and compassion. These qualities have been honed in embracing the pain of the Rwandan genocide. It revealed to me weaknesses in my understanding of Christianity and its relevance in healing political and individual conflict. Perhaps, I thought, the process could even be used to heal conflict in churches, staff rooms. I could feel myself learning and being moved and humbled as I watched. Terry Monagle, writer and speaker ..................................................................................................... Your work with the Rwandan community is phenomenal. Their courage and capacity for change is nothing short of miraculous and a testament to hearts that can forgive individually and collectively through a radical faith. The movement from trauma to recovery is clearly outlined in this resource as an accessible process that is incremental in its approach. I particularly enjoyed the personal stories, music, and visuals that helped me engage with not only the Rwandan story but my own. The focus on emotional healing and restorative action in very practical ways, modelled on the Gospel, gave me a feeling of hope and empowerment that I could make a difference. I recommend this resource highly as a stimulating guide for discussion, reflection, prayer and social action towards a more humane just future for all. Your work is inspirational and I can feel the years of concentrated
belief, endurance and hard work behind it... by many. Trish Watts, Singer-Songwriter, Teacher, Creative Arts and Spirituality Consultant and Voice Movement Therapy Practitioner, Australia << previous reviews |
